The selection of the Saphan Siang Youth Ambassadors Round II has now been completed. Twenty Youth Ambassadors have been selected and will start their volunteer placements from Feburary to May 2015. These 20 talented university students – from Chiang Mai to Songkhla – will embark on 20 unique volunteer placements with 10 civil society organisations across Thailand. They will learn about migrant worker issues and assist their host organisations in achieving the organisational mandates towards protecting the rights of migrant workers and promoting better access to practical social sevices. While helping their host organisations, these young people will be promoting greater understanding between migrants and host society by sharing their stories and positive contribution migrant workers make to Thailand. As a start of their jouney these Youth Ambassadors will be convened during 29-30 January 2014 at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok, where they will be learning about labour migration and a range of topics by Saphan Siang’s partners such as IOM-X, UN Women and others. They will also have the opportunity to learn how to impact change using available social media tools to promote important messages about migration and public attitudes towards migrant workers. Stay tuned for more to come!
